The Junior tennis coaching programme at Crowborough has been designed to closely mirror the framework laid out by the LTA. The framework is split into Mini Tennis and Junior Tennis.
Mini Tennis is a great introduction to the sport for young children between 3 and 10 years old. It’s just like the real thing, but with smaller courts, nets and rackets and lower-bouncing balls.
Tots is for children aged 3 to 5 years old and enables them to learn the basics and how to enjoy the game through a series of fun activities, based on the fundamental areas of balance, co-ordination, agility, movement and racket and ball skills.
There are no specific Rally Awards at this stage although players can receive stickers as reward and recognition for trying hard, achieving certain skills and working well with others in the group.
Tots play with sponge balls and 19 or 21 inch rackets and the focus is about making it as much fun as possible.
There are three further levels of Mini Tennis; Red, Orange and Green, each with there own court size and type of ball. This tailored approach, based on age and physical maturity enables players to develop vital skills and techniques at an early age.
